one with the earth happened across this lovely symbol today, which was designed by a man named Dan Poresky. It’s meant to be a universal symbol for environmental awareness. He says this about it:

I designed the ‘One with the Earth’ symbol to serve as an ever-present reminder that it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure a livable world for our children and future generations.

The symbol design represents the Earth, sun (the source of all life’s energy), water (covers 70% of the Earth’s surface), land (30% of the Earth’s surface), and life. of the pictures on Dan’s site are from a Unitarian Universalist church in Pennsylvania. So, I assume it’s no coincidence that the One with the Earth symbol looks remarkably like a Flaming Chalice, the UU symbol.

The site provides free artwork, suggested uses for the symbol, and a form you can send to get free stickers. Basically, Dan would like to see his symbol used everywhere, as a reminder to all of us that we need to take care of our planet — after all, it’s the only one we’ve got.

  1. It also bears quite a resemblence to a crux ansata.

I had to look it up! 😀  I’ve always heard the symbol you refer to called an ankh. It means “life,” so it’s very appropriate that this earth symbol resembles it.

  3. Awe! It’s adorable. Looks like a little pie faced dude screaming, “Hug me, and thereby hug the Earth as well.”
